Two teams - one button

How to Play

The rules are printed right on the coin box. Here they are, with the details the owner's manual fills in.

From the coin box

  1. Deposit coin(s).
  2. Press control box button once to launch bird.
  3. Press control box button again to shoot.
  4. Players take turns shooting.
  5. Game scores according to the accuracy of the hit. Double score is awarded when "Doubles" is lit. A miss scores 1 point for opponent.
  6. Game ends when "Trapshoot" lights.
  7. Free game awarded for ___ expert hits. (The operator fills in the number.)
The simulation: Station C fires, the bullet travels up its line toward the bird
Station C fires: the bullet chases up the printed line toward the crossing point as the bird flies in from the left traphouse.

A turn, step by step

  1. Your team's label lights on the scoreboard - TEAM 1 or TEAM 2. Team 1 always starts.
  2. Press once. One traphouse is chosen at random and stays lit; the other goes out. Your shooter brightens and his STATION sign lights: C for the left traphouse, A for the right. The READY light comes on.
  3. Wait for it. READY stays on for a random delay, then goes out - and the bird launches at one of four speeds. On the real machine the slowest bird takes about seven seconds to cross; the fastest, a little over three.
  4. Press again to fire. The bullet runs up your shooter's line. You need the bullet and the bird to meet where the line crosses the bird's path - which means firing a beat early. You only get one shot.
  5. Score. Hit and the burst flashes, then HIT SCORE counts 1, 2, 3, 4 depending on how close you were. Miss and the bird sails on - and the other team gets a point.

DOUBLES

Every fourth round the DOUBLES sign lights. Both traphouses launch together, the center shooter at Station B takes the shot, and whatever HIT SCORE you earn counts double.

EXPERT hits

A perfect shot scores 4: the big trophy lights, the crowd cheers, and a small cup lights on the tally board. Collect enough in one game and FREE GAME lights - the next game is on the house.

Ending the game

When either team reaches the target score (the simulation uses 30, matching the machine in our footage), the game ends after Team 2's turn and TRAPSHOOT lights up.

Playing the simulation

Insert coinC - watch the quarter drop through the coin box. Up to four games can be stored.
Transmitter buttonSpace or Enter - one button, shared by both teams, just like the real control box. The on-screen transmitter's red lens lights when you press it.
Operator settingsF1 - target score, free-game count, bird speed trim, lighting levels, attract mode, volume and more. Settings are saved in your browser.
Phones and tabletsOn-screen INSERT COIN and FIRE buttons, plus a gear for settings.
Tip: the bullet takes about a quarter of a second to reach the crossing point. Watch the bird a couple of lamps before the burst and fire there. Slow birds are easy; fast birds are not.
